About

Nate Andrew (b. 1989) is a composer, guitarist, and songwriter currently living in Bridgton, Maine. In 2015, he completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Finger-Style Guitar Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), Peck School of the Arts under the principal instruction of John Stropes and Andrew Lardner. In conjunction with his studies at UWM, he has participated in workshops by world-renowned guitarists including Pino Forastiere, Clive Carroll, Antoine Dufour, Andy Mckee, Lucas Michailidis, and many others. He had the wonderful experience of studying individually with Pino Forastiere in the summer of 2014 in Tivoli, Italy. In addition to the guitar, Nate has studied classical voice at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and was awarded a scholarship for achievement as well as the Marie E. Weiss Scholarship. In April, 2015 he opened for guitarist Woody Mann as part of the MKE unplugged series.

His compositions for both solo acoustic guitar and guitar ensemble draw heavily on the influence of minimalism as well as polymetric and polyrhythmic concepts. His piece, “Murmuration,” written for seven guitars, is an exercise in texture, dynamics, and rhythmic continuity between performers. It debuted in the Spring of 2015 at UWM under the direction of Andrew Lardner (M.M.) and is the second ensemble piece of his premiered at UWM.

Songwriting since he was a young man, it remains an important part of his musical life today. Nate embarked on a trip over the summer months of 2015 throughout the United States where he completed a collection of both solo acoustic guitar compositions and folk songs. Drawing on the inspiration of the American wilderness plus the plethora of diverse lifestyles and cultures found in American society, Nate’s intention is to relate to people, and connect them to each other through music. His performances are raw and unforgiving. His emotion is apparent and unabated. Plus, he’s got some good stories to share.

If you can’t reach him, he’s probably somewhere training his dog.
